Musings

I seem to be spending a lot of time telling myself not to worry at the moment, and digging for Scripture to cling to... *not* worrying doesn't seem to come easy to me, it's a continual battle. I found these two "poems" when I was cleaning up my computer. I'd do well to remember these things!

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,

When our strength has failed ere the day is half done;

There are two days in every week about which we should no worry, two days which should be kept free from fear and apprehension:

One of these days is Yesterday, with all its mistakes and cares, its faults and blunders, its aches and pains.

Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday. WE cannot undo a single act we performed; we cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone forever.

The other day we should not worry about is Tomorrow with all it's possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and its poor performance;

Tomorrow is beyond our immediate control. Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendour or behind a mask of clouds, but it will rise.

Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is yet to be born.

This leaves only one day - Today.

Any person can fight the battle of just one day. It is when you and I add the burdens of those two awful extremities Yesterday and Tomorrow that we break down. It is not the experience of Today that drives a person mad, it is the remorse or bitterness of something which happened Yesterday and the dread of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us therefore live but one day at a time.

Wonderfully, while I was musing and searching for Scriptures... the Lord reminded me of this "And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you: do not fear nor be dismayed." Deut 31:8 What an encouragement Joshua must have found this as he prepared to lead the Israelites! And I found it a wonderful word in season for me too as I prepare to sell/buy a house and move and find myself full of fear and panic. It never ceases to amaze me how alive the Scriptures are and how God can speak through them into our every situation... refreshing verses we already know and making them so relevant in our time of need... God is so good.
