Spike was desperate to make cookies this week... so he made some chocolate ones (of course!) and cut with the alphabet cutters... Bubbles tried to resist helping, but didn't quite manage to keep her fingers off completely!

Ahhhh... just wonderful! We see some glorious sunsets from the front of the house. Ok, it's not quite as stunning in the photo, but hopefully gives a little idea...
Brave Bubbles had to have some blood taken this week... she's tired a lot and still struggling with a sore tummy most of the time... the Drs say it's nothing - growing pains, something she has to put up with... but they consented to doing some blood tests (well, THEY don't actually do them - can't on kids... so we had to go to the hospital paediatrics!). They, and me, don't think anything untoward will come back from it... maybe it IS just something she needs to put up with, but it's hard for her to keep being told that.
The highlight of our week... a trip to Berrington Hall. Wonderful grounds... here the kids explore a piece of modern art...

Views... and sheep seperated from us by a Ha Ha..... !!! Yes, you heard me right! What a bizarre name... perhaps it's because you don't see it until you've fallen down it, and are then required to laugh to hide your embarrassement?! Clever idea though.
Bubbles and I took an 'Above Stairs' tour... a look at the life of the servants who lived in this place, and what their working conditions were like. The above was our 'Interpretation Assistant' (she told us that it basically means she gets to dress up!!)... she is dressed at the chief laundry maid. Absolutely fascinating all that she told us. This household of 6 would have had 45 servants. Spike and Mum & Dad had a look around the main house.

Doesn't seem like we did much this week, but we did... mostly run-of-the-mill type stuff.
I've been trying to write up reports on Spike... I finally heard that he has been accepted to be assessed by the Council for a Statement of Special Educational Needs (assessment doesn't necessarily mean he'll get the coveted SEN... the council are so reluctant to give them out at the moment, due to the finanical cut-backs, so I'm not holding my breath). This would be great if he got it, as it will mean that he can access the Speech and Language therapy he needs... without it, well, there doesn't seem to be much help they can offer. It's all really quite depressing! There is very little 'help' offered in the community, it is all mostly through the school system... and yet, there isn't enough specialist provision in the schools, so being in school doesn't actually guarantee help!... cut backs... where does it leave us? In the Hands of the Lord. Spike has also been approved to be assessed by CASBAT (communication and social behaviour assessment team). Poor old Spike though... means he's going to have to see the Paed, Ed Psych, Clinical Psych, and S&L therapist AGAIN... he's a bit fed up! He's done well to see them all so often since we moved down... but he doesn't like them much and has taken to going voluntarily mute when he sees them! The hardest thing I've found in writing up the reports, is the need everyone has to COMPARE... I've tried so very hard to NOT go down the comparison route too much over the years, and it's hurts a bit to have to do it now. I really hope it's worth it.
